Faire Folke and their Characters
Thursday, July 12, 2007, 06:39 PM PST [General]
I have been busy trying to get ready for our Next Sales Event which will be Balboa Park on The first weekend of August. While I am getting product ready, repairing costumes, and doing the general inventory, I got to thinking about the fine gentle folke that will come to pass that weekend through my "store". I got to thinking about how dedicated they are to their character. From they time they arrive to do set up, till the last sleeping bag is rolled up and packed, the populus never EVER, breaks out of character or accent. For that I have deep profound respect. I myself am required to do an Irish, but frankly, me irish ain't that grand. So I tend to stay w/mundane accent throughout unless I am in camp. Rest assured, if you come to my booth, you are more then welcome to break character and relax. After all, Faire is meant to be fun, it is not meant to go so far into character, that people are not suprised that we are living up to the "oh my god they really are so far detached from reality that i am going to walk about 3 steps behind them for fear they are going to snap and stab me w/their sword stereo type." I love to play my character as much as the next person, but when i am in the mundane world, I am all the way in the mundane world. Feel free to loosen up the breeches, and keep the character in the closet. I am friends w/you because you chose to put me on your list I want to know more then just your character. I want to know the Man or Woman that created the character. Then I will have better knowledge of the character as well. If I am not mistaken , and feel free to correct me if I am, Renspace.com was created for renfolk who don't want the myspace drama. Its sole purpose is for connection to other ren folk. It is not meant to be a 24/7 faire event. So once again, my strongest admiration for you for staying in character at faire. but when you are not at camp, relax, I am always willing to let you come to the booth for some ice water, some cool breeze, and a break from our weekend "reality" . Stop by and say "Good Morrow"

My Home Faire, just briefly, will expound later

My home faire Felicita at Escondido Park, is about 7,000 day trippers last time I checked. There is about 75 vendors, about 30 guilds, and lots of fire pits, and alcohol. I really do enjoy the weekends that Felicita happens. There is 2 weeks in the summer and 2 weeks in the fall for that show.

I'll be at the good old home faire in Holly MI... MIRF. Also will be at Mayfaire in Marshall, Derbyshire (new) in Muskegon, and Silverleaf in Battle Creek. I'll bet the CA faire is huge!
